In a significant move to democratize AI-driven video production, Google has announced the broader release of Veo 3, its latest cutting-edge AI-powered video creation tool. Initially launched in December 2024 as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s Sora, Veo 2, the updated Veo 3 now reaches a wider global audience, ensuring more users can harness its innovative features.
Veo 3 is now available through Google’s premium AI Ultra subscription plan, which is priced at $249.99 per month. Starting today, users in the United Kingdom can access Veo 3, marking an expansion to a total of 73 supported countries. Google has plans to include even more regions in the near future. Subscribers to the Ultra plan benefit from unlimited access to Veo 3’s sophisticated video creation capabilities, usable via Google’s desktop and web-based Flow platform or through the Gemini mobile application.
For users on the Pro subscription tier, the experience is somewhat more restricted. These users can generate up to 10 trial videos within the Gemini app and have limited access to Veo 3 features on the Flow platform. However, in a recent update, Google has begun enabling direct Veo 3 feature access from the Gemini mobile app for Pro users, providing more flexibility.
In its ongoing efforts to promote transparency in AI-generated content, Google has incorporated a digital watermark called SynthID into all videos produced with its AI models. This watermark allows viewers to easily identify whether a piece of content was created by AI or by a human. Currently, SynthID is being tested with a limited user group, with plans to expand its deployment in the upcoming weeks.
To combat the potential spread of misinformation via AI-generated videos, Google has implemented a policy of adding a visible watermark to most videos created with Veo 3. Notably, this watermark does not appear in videos produced through the Ultra plan on the Flow platform, reflecting a sector-wide consensus on the importance of clearly marking AI-generated content. This initiative aims to increase user trust and ensure responsible use of AI technology in digital media.
