Andrew and Tristan Tate Officially Charged in the UK with Rape and Other Offenses

Andrew Tate faces 10 charges related to three women that include rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.

LONDON — Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been formally charged in the United Kingdom with a series of serious criminal offenses, including rape, human trafficking, and assault, British prosecutors confirmed on Wednesday.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the charges — initially authorized in January 2023 — mark the first time the British authorities have publicly confirmed the criminal proceedings against the controversial duo. At the time, media outlets had reported the existence of arrest warrants, but no official statement had been made until now.

Andrew Tate, 38, is facing 10 charges involving three women, which include rape, causing actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and profiting from controlling prostitution. His younger brother, Tristan Tate, 36, is facing 11 charges related to a separate woman, including rape, assault, and human trafficking.

Both men, dual citizens of the U.S. and U.K., moved to Romania in 2016, where they have since built massive online followings. Andrew, in particular, has drawn widespread attention — and criticism — for his openly misogynistic views and promotion of a hyper-luxurious lifestyle, often targeted at young male audiences.

A spokesperson for the brothers declined to comment when contacted by The Associated Press.

The brothers were arrested in Romania in late 2022 and formally indicted there in 2023 on similar allegations, including involvement in a criminal network accused of luring women for sexual exploitation. Romanian courts have approved their extradition to the U.K. once their ongoing legal proceedings in Romania are complete.

The charges in the U.K. stem from alleged incidents occurring between 2012 and 2015 and were issued by Bedfordshire Police.

Their current whereabouts remain uncertain, although they were recently seen outside a police station in Voluntari, Romania, where they are required to report regularly under the terms of their release.

Andrew and Tristan Tate, both former professional kickboxers, have consistently denied all allegations made against them in both Romania and the U.K.
