Final Preparations in Istanbul for the Upcoming High School Entrance Exam (LGS)

Citywide readiness efforts in Istanbul have reached their conclusion as the preparations for tomorrow’s High School Transition System, commonly known as LGS, are now fully in place. This significant examination will see the participation of 12,129 students across 581 schools, spanning all 39 districts of Istanbul, in a total of approximately 12,000 classrooms.

Over 188,000 students are expected to sit for the exam, marking a major milestone in their academic journey. Murat Mücahit Yentür, the Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education, announced that comprehensive arrangements have been finalized citywide. He emphasized that students aiming to enroll in various high schools—including science high schools, social sciences high schools, project-based schools, Anatolian high schools, vocational and technical Anatolian high schools, as well as Anatolian Imam Hatip schools—are all set to participate in the upcoming exam.

He further detailed the specifics: “In Istanbul, this year, 39 districts will host the exam in 581 schools, utilizing 12,537 classrooms. The total number of students registered is 188,129. Among these, 3,275 students with special needs will take the exam in individual rooms, and 25 students will be taking the exam at home or in hospitals, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all candidates.”

Mr. Yentür highlighted the extensive coordination efforts underway: “On exam day, our dedicated team of administrators, teachers, and support staff across the city will operate seamlessly to ensure a smooth testing process. The exam will be held simultaneously across Turkey, beginning at 09:30 AM on June 15, 2025. The first session comprises 50 questions from the verbal section, with a duration of 75 minutes. Following this, the second session begins at 11:30 AM, featuring 40 questions from the quantitative section, and lasts for 80 minutes. These sessions are designed to evaluate students’ cognitive skills, including reading comprehension, interpretation, drawing conclusions, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning.”
