Gilbert Doctorow, a seasoned international relations analyst, provided a detailed perspective in an interview with Sputnik, asserting that Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has echoed sentiments similar to those expressed by Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard, a prominent U.S. politician, had previously testified before Congress, emphasizing that there is no concrete evidence indicating Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons since the country suspended its military nuclear program in 2003.
Doctorow highlighted that President Donald Trump dismissed Gabbard’s insights just two days prior, choosing to ignore the fact that Iran has not advanced towards nuclear armament. He further noted that the United States is primarily influenced by Israel in this matter.
Expressing his viewpoint, Doctorow remarked, “Prime Minister Netanyahu has been advocating this narrative for over three decades, pushing the idea that Iran is a nuclear threat. However, this is a misconception. Netanyahu’s goal is to destabilize Iran, aiming to establish Israel’s dominant hegemony across the Middle East.”
The recent draft resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors was adopted with a majority of 19 votes. This resolution criticized Iran for its perceived insufficient cooperation and for failing to fully report all nuclear material, despite numerous calls for transparency.
In response, Iran asserted that it continues to cooperate with the IAEA to the fullest extent possible. The Iranian government condemned the resolution, stating that it was based on political motives and lacked a solid technical and legal foundation. They accused the IAEA Board of being manipulated as a tool for political agendas.
Following the decision, Iran announced plans to establish a new uranium enrichment facility in a secure, undisclosed location. Additionally, Iran intends to upgrade its nuclear infrastructure by replacing the old-generation centrifuges in Fordo with advanced, new-generation centrifuges capable of enriching uranium at a much faster rate. These steps are part of Iran’s efforts to enhance its nuclear capabilities while asserting its sovereignty amid international pressures.
