It was reported that gunfire was opened on Palestinians trying to receive food aid in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza. Hamas, which blamed Israel for the attack, announced that at least 30 people were killed. The Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation (GHF), supported by Israel and the US, which carried out the distribution, denied the claims and stated that the food distribution was completed “without any issues.”
Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli soldiers fired onto the crowd about one kilometer away from the aid point. An Associated Press journalist reported that many people, including women and children, were injured. Local health officials told Reuters that 31 bodies were brought to Nasser Hospital.
The Israeli army stated that the allegations are being investigated, while the US-based GHF dismissed the attack news as “Hamas propaganda.” Despite claims of “unfounded, fabricated” allegations, GHF announced that on Sunday morning, 16 trucks of aid were distributed, and in six days, a total of 4.7 million meals have been distributed to Gazans.
Israel had previously claimed that Hamas exploited the distribution process managed by the United Nations (UN) and that the aid had fallen into the hands of militants, establishing its own distribution network.
In the war triggered by Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, over 54,000 Palestinians have been killed. During Israeli bombings, more than 90% of Gazans have been displaced..
