Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest, Hungarian Minister János Bóka accused Brussels of drifting away from freedom of expression and abandoning true tolerance.
“Lost sovereignty, dissolved nations, and abandoned values will never return. One day, our grandchildren may listen to stories about Europe the same way we hear legends about lost Atlantis.”
A Struggle Between Two European Visions
Bóka highlighted an ongoing conflict in Europe between two paths: a patriotic Europe based on sovereign nation-states and Christian values, versus a federalist approach aiming to expand Brussels’ authority at the expense of member states’ independence.
“European civilization is built on Judeo-Christian and humanist roots. If Brussels denies that, it is dismantling Europe’s identity. There’s no such thing as partial sovereignty — either you have it or you don’t.”
Brussels Targets Hungary
Bóka also noted that the European Commission has filed a lawsuit against the Hungarian government, accusing it of violating the rule of law and corruption standards — allegedly in response to Hungary exposing similar issues within Brussels.
